What do over 300 congregants and friends have in common? Their desire to work together to make voting a priority during election seasons!
Since the presidential election year of 2020, with the encouragement of Rabbi Hannah Goldstein and Temple Sinai Social Action Chair Glenn Engelmann, Temple Sinai congregants of all ages have banded together to write and mail over 60,000 post cards, make over 1,000 phone calls, and send thousands of texts to would-be voters in the South. Reclaim Our Vote, the nonpartisan organization that leads our work, identified hundreds of thousands of voters who were either not registered to vote or whose registrations had been denied by their local or state boards of election in states such as Texas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
As part of the Voter Engagement Campaign initiated by the URJ’s Religious Action Center, our energetic group of volunteers has contacted thousands of voters since May 2020 to remind them to register and to vote.
The campaign to contact voters will continue during this year’s election season. It’s a pleasure to work with so many dedicated and enthusiastic congregants who care deeply about voters’ rights and the ongoing health of our democracy.
