Eugene Lipman Grants
About The Rabbi Eugene Lipman Grants
The Davis Center awards annual social justice grants in honor of Rabbi Eugene J. Lipman. Rabbi Lipman served as rabbi at Temple Sinai from 1961 until retiring in 1987. He was also a civil rights activist and past president of the National Capital Area chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Rabbi Lipman was a national leader in Reform Judaism and former director of its Commission on Social Action.
In awarding these social justice grants, we are focused on Jewish values for justice, equality, and a better world. Temple Sinai is committed to working towards racial equity, ending systemic racism and realizing Temple Sinai’s goal of becoming an affirmatively antiracist congregation. Preference is given to small to mid-size local 501(c)(3) organizations (under $1 million in revenues exclusive of in-kind contributions).
