Temple Sinai members convened via Zoom on Thursday May 4 for an informational program, “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Affordable Housing but Were Afraid to Ask.” Housing policy expert Melissa Bondi from Enterprise Community Partners kicked off the meeting with basics on affordable housing concepts, terms, and policies. Anne Schwartz and Barbara Kraft of Sinai’s core team with the Washington Interfaith Network then shared insights on opportunities in Upper Northwest, particularly the Chevy Chase Civic Core (site of the soon to be renovated Chevy Chase Library and Community Center pictured below) and the Western Bus Garage in Friendship Heights.

Rabbi Goldstein wrapped up the program by connecting affordable housing issues with teachings and texts from the Torah, reminding the audience of the words from Isaiah that are read annually on Yom Kippur – to share your bread and bring the homeless into your home.

The full recording of the Zoom session can be found here; the slide presentations are linked above.
